Canon Type CL-31, CL-41, PG-30, PG-40 and related ink jet cartridges are used in photo printers and fax-based multifunction printers (MFPs) such as the PIXMA iP1180 and FAX-JX200.
Each photo printer uses 2 ink cartridges (one black, one tri-color) while the MFPs use only black cartridges. Several printers in the family are able to produce black prints without a color cartridge being installed, while others use only the tri-color cartridge for all printing, including black.
Cartridges are available in standard and high yield versions, with ink capacity differing by cartridge type. Each model ships with a standard yield cartridge.
Each ink cartridge requires a chip for correct printer operation.
